Wickword Terms of Use
Effective October 21, 2026
1. Who we are
Wickword (the "App") and this website are run by Joshua D'Alessio, an individual in Maine, USA ("we," "us"). These Terms are an agreement between you and us.
2. Accepting these Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Wickword you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the App.
3. Who can play
You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission, and they agree to these Terms for you.
4. Your license to use the App
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for your own non-commercial fun. You may not copy, sell, rent, modify, reverse engineer, or redistribute the App, except where the law says you can.
5. Display names and fair play
You choose a display name that others can see. Keep it clean. You agree not to:
- use names that are offensive, hateful, sexual, threatening, or pretend to be someone else;
- cheat, use bots, scripts, solvers, or automation;
- exploit bugs or tamper with scores, the App, or our servers;
- harass other players or try to break the service.
We may change or remove any name, remove or correct any score, and suspend or ban any player or device at our discretion, with or without notice.
6. Scores, leaderboards, and progress can be lost
Scores, leaderboards, rankings, streaks, personal bests, stats, challenge results, league standings, and other progress are provided "as is." They may be lost, reset, corrected, or removed at any time, for example by a bug, a server problem, an update, clearing app data, changing phones, or uninstalling. Much of your progress is stored only on your device. We are not responsible for lost or changed scores or progress, and you will not receive any compensation for them.
Today we keep hourly tournament scores for about 3 days and Daily Tournament scores for about 60 days. These periods may change.
7. Just for fun: no prizes
Tournaments, challenges, leagues, and leaderboards are for entertainment only. There are no prizes, and nothing in the App has any cash value.
8. Wickword Plus subscription
- Plus is billed through Google Play or the Apple App Store, using your store account. We never see your card details.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. Cancel any time in your store's subscription settings, at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid the next charge.
- Refunds are handled by Google or Apple under their policies.
- We may change the price with advance notice as the store requires. A new price applies at your next renewal after notice.
- We may change what's free and what's in Plus, including the number of free games, at any time.
9. Invites and referral credits
Rewards for inviting friends (such as free Plus time) have no cash value, can't be sold or transferred, and may be changed or ended at any time. Fake accounts, self-referrals, or other abuse void the rewards, and we may take them back.
10. Virtual items
Hints, free games, badges, and anything else in the App are a limited license to use within the App. They are not property and have no cash value.
11. Testing builds
Testing and beta builds may be buggy, incomplete, or unstable, and may lose data. Use them at your own risk. Feedback is welcome.
12. Availability and changes
We don't promise the App will always be available or error-free. We may change, pause, or discontinue any feature or the whole App at any time.
13. Ownership
Wickword, including its name, logo, design, code, artwork, and word lists, belongs to us or our licensors. These Terms don't give you any rights to it except the license in section 4.
14. Your feedback
If you send ideas or suggestions, you let us use them freely, without owing you anything.
15. Other services
The App relies on third-party services such as Google Play, the Apple App Store, and Cloudflare. Their own terms apply, and we aren't responsible for them.
16. No warranties
The App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows.
17. Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, scores, progress, or profits. Our total liability for any claim relating to the App is limited to the greater of what you paid us for the App in the 12 months before the claim, or $10 USD. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
18. Indemnity
You agree to defend and hold us harmless from claims, losses, and costs (including reasonable legal fees) that come from your misuse of the App or your breaking these Terms.
19. Ending your use
You can stop using the App any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms. Sections 6, 7, 10, and 13 through 21 continue after that.
20. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We'll change the effective date above, and for big changes we'll give notice in the App or on this page. Using the App after changes means you accept them.
21. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maine, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Maine, unless the law where you live says otherwise.
22. Other terms
If any part of these Terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a right, we haven't given it up. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement about the App. You may not transfer them; we may.
